Windy Girl

Windy Girl, or… sketching in oil paints: July, 2016

I have had an epiphany, that I do not need to spend hours, let alone days on an oil painting to call it finished! I am really excited about this idea, that I can doodle in oil paints on inexepensive materials, and not be precious about my ideas or my paints, and still create work that some people who can’t afford my bigger more time-consuming work would want to buy. Windy Girl is the first of my experiments with this idea, and she turned out amazing… I can’t wait to try more!

Drawings from my last figure drawing session — Again, a great model with a strong figure and sense of expression. As usual, we started out with fast poses for gesture drawing, and then the last hour and a half we had just one pose. I decided to do a portrait for the last session, but I feel like the final piece is too unfinished, and I didn’t take quite enough time in the measuring stages. I wish I’d had another couple of hours with her, she had such beautiful structure and expression in her face. Because of that, I think that my 15 minute pose drawings are actually the strongest pieces from this session.
